How to donate | We are an adult acute mental health ward based in North Kensington, London. People can drop them off in person at the hospital where I work Monday - Friday 9-5pm, or they can post the items to the address given using my name. If people are located in the proximity of West London and have a number of products I would be more than happy to collect which we can arrange over email! |

What we do | I am an Assistant Psychologist on a female only Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit . We work with people who are experiencing severe mental health difficulties and need a period in hospital to recover and regain their mental wellness. Often, people who have experienced such a decline in mental state have not been able to take care of themselves in a way in which they usually would and need some TLC and support in re-establishing their personal hygiene routines. Without the budget for nice products we often have to encourage people with NHS supplied shower gel and shampoo which is far from inspiring. These people often have limited social or family support to bring them in nice products and it really does make a difference when we are able to share better products with them to use. Other times, people have been brought to hospital with very little supplies - by having nicer products avalaible we can promote self-care and self-hygiene which is self-loving and compassionate encouraging many positive psychological responses. In addition to this, we have been fortunate enough on the ward to have a volunteer professional make-up artist who attends the ward on a weekly basis to run a group called 'Beautiful Ppl'. This group is part of St. Charles based project called 'One Community' ran by Cate Latto. The project brings in and connects people with meaningful professionals such as make up artists, hair stylists, music artists and actors to run groups on the wards. If anyone has any partially used make up products or hair products for these groups we would really appreciate this! ** At this time of year we are starting to plan for our patients who may unfortunately be with us over the festive period. Although not everyone celebrates this period, we are aware that this time of year can be especially difficult for people who have to spend it in hospital and away from their families. To try to make things better for the people who are with us including gift giving. If anybody has anything wrapped/sealed that they have laying around such as unwanted gifts they have previously received that would be an appropriate small gift we would be really grateful to receive these** Thanks, Emily! |
What we accept |
All beauty products would be incredibly appreciated to give to people who come to the ward with very little - essentials like shampoo, conditioner and body wash would be most valuable for this purpose.
For the purpose of the self-care therapy group products such as make-up, face-masks, bath salts, aromatherapy products etc can be incredibly powerful in creating a positive atmosphere and a more luxurious feel than simply having a box full of deodorants!
But, genuinely, anything at all that can be donated would mean an awful lot and would be very much appreciated on the ward.
