What we do | The Equally Safe Multi Agency centre (ESMAC) is based in Edinburgh and is a dedicated facility, which provides a wraparound person-centred trauma informed service for adults 16 and over who have encountered gender-based violence, rape, and sexual assault, who live in Edinburgh and the Lothian areas. The ESMAC will officially open In September 2022, however we are currently providing this service from our Sycamore Suite in the Astley Ainsley Hospital, Edinburgh. This facility is where survivors aged 16 or over attend for a healthcare assessment and forensic examination. This service is a multi-agency service incorporating health care, police, and partner services to provide a trauma informed response to gender based violence. As much as this is a healthcare facility our aim is to ensure the Sycamore Suite is a non-clinical area, which we want to portray as homely and welcoming. When a survivor comes to The Sycamore, examinations and assessments can take up to 5-6 hours, so we always ensure that there is food and drink available for them. Following the forensic examination, survivors will shower, and we also supply people with new underwear and clothing to wear home as often their clothing is kept for evidence. I would be most grateful if you would consider Sycamore for any donations. |
