What we do | Candlelighters is a children's cancer charity that provides support to families affected by childhood cancer throughout Yorkshire. We provide practical, emotional and financial support to families and also fund vital research into childhood cancer. We deliver a range of family support services for as long as is needed, from the point of diagnosis, during and after treatment, and for those families who are sadly bereaved. We offer support groups for mums, dads, siblings, patients and grandparents, we also run an annual residential for siblings and trips throughout the year. The Square is our family support centre that is just a short walk from Leeds Children's Hospital. Families can come here for a relaxing massage, talking therapy or even just for a cup of tea and a chat. We also offer this support out in the community, through our Candlelighters In Your Community model to make our support easily accessible for those that live further away. We also offer family assistance grants and much needed holidays throughout a child's cancer journey. In 2018, we opened our Candlelighters Cottage, which provides a home from home accommodation for families with a child as an inpatient being treated for cancer at Leeds Children’s Hospital. On the children's haematology and oncology wards and clinic, there a Candlelighters Family Engagement Workers. They are there to engage with families to ensure they know what support is accessible to them provided by Candlelighters and be there to help families in any way that they need. We also provide funding for a number of roles at the hospital and provide lots of amenities from arts and crafts to birthday boxes for children staying on the wards and in clinic. Please have a look on our website to find out more about the amazing support we provide! |
