Bee Wirral CIC Grows with Toiletries Amnesty Donations

A community centre in Birkenhead has been able to support even more local people with donations received through the Toiletries Amnesty, including sanitary products, everyday bathroom items and cosmetics.

Bee Wirral, based in the Livingstone Community & Play Centre, is a Community Interest Company, so it focuses on social enterprise. As well as helping people to access training courses and services nearby, Bee Wirral provides a food co-op from Monday to Friday, where a whole bag of food costs just £3 – a huge relief for people affected by low incomes and the rising cost of living. Toiletries are available for free, through Toiletries Amnesty, donated by people or companies in the Birkenhead area.

Generous donors have supplied a range of unused toiletries such as shampoo, soap and toothpaste. Bee Wirral already participates in the Birkenhead-based Pink Box Campaign, which supplies free sanitary products from local donors (something that’s right up our street here at Toiletries Amnesty!), to help the 40% of girls in Birkenhead who can’t afford sanitary protection. Toiletries Amnesty extends this kind of social action to help even more people nearby.

Bee Wirral is a great example of community support, which is why we’re proud to have it as a Toiletries Amnesty recipient. The company acts as a hub where you can use computers, get job hunting advice, find activities for babies and toddlers, join the Silverbacks men’s social group, and take part in special events like the recent Family Fun Day, where visitors headed to the bouncy castle, learned French or took a chance on the raffle. Basically, nobody gets left behind or excluded here.

Donating your unwanted and unopened toiletries may seem like a small gesture, but those products really make a difference when you’re on a tight budget. Rifle through your cupboards now and you’re bound to find a few products you forgot you owned, let alone remembered to use, so this is the perfect opportunity to give them a new home.

Do you live in and around the Wirral and could you spare some unused toiletries and cosmetics for a good cause? Bee Wirral would like to hear from you. There are two easy ways to donate:

  • Drop off your items in person at the front desk (from Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm).
  • Post your items to 130 St Anne Street, Birkenhead, CH41 3HX, marking on or inside the parcel that it’s for the Toiletries Amnesty.

What are you waiting for? Get raiding your bathroom cupboard and dressing table today, and social enterprises like Bee Wirral will make sure they don’t go to waste.
